Every commercial establishment in New York City is required by law to have its waste removed by a carting company licensed by BIC or obtain a registration from BIC to haul its own waste.
There are over 200 carters licensed by BIC that can legally collect waste from commercial establishments in New York City. Before deciding on a carter, BIC strongly recommends that you obtain price quotes from several different companies.
BIC has a list of licensed carters permitted to do business in New York City. For a current and up-to-date list of licensed private carters, please fax your request to 212-676-6204. You can also learn which carters service your neighborhood by looking at BIC decals posted on storefronts. A commercial establishment using a carter must prominently display a BIC decal (provided by the carter free of charge) identifying the carter. Unless permitted by BIC, a carter cannot refuse to service a business if it already services another customer located within 10-block area.
There are close to 700 carting companies registered by BIC that can only legally collect waste materials resulting from building demolition, construction, alteration or excavation.
